We made a commercial for a local lawyer trying to sue us.
Across all of the internet, people love to joke that the Duolingo Owl (“Duo”) will kidnap your family, friends, or even pets as revenge if you do not complete your daily language lesson.
To lean into the meme, we produced a commercial for a fake injury attorney named “Peter Francis Menchetti” who offered legal services for victims of the Duolingo owl.
We worked with the minds behind Schmoyoho to film a video in the style of local lawyer commercials we see all too often and write a custom jingle for his “Menchetti & Sons” law firm.
The viral video organically hit #23 in Trending on YouTube and reached the front page of Reddit from a fan post. In total, the campaign generated 11.5M impressions and over 12,000 calls to the hotline. Then, a media company reached out to us and offered free billboard ad space in Times Square, so we even got our local lawyer up on a giant screen in NYC.
