In a past life, I was as an audio engineer at Capitol Records. I started working full-time in the studio while still a full-time student at USC. For over three years, I rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and produced projects on the side as well. I eventually made the transition from music into advertising to move away from engineering into more conceptual work. These are some of my favorite projects.
The New Basement Tapes
In 2014, T-Bone Burnett gathered a supergroup including Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, Jim James (My Morning Jacket) to write/record a new album based on previously lost Bob Dylan lyrics. I served as an assistant audio engineer and earned the nickname "Magic Kevin".
Patrick Watson
I assistant engineered Patrick Watson's latest album. We locked out Studio B at Capitol for nine days, and I beat my previous record for hours worked per day. There were analog synthesizers, shirtless men cursing in French Canadian, tequila bottles, and a lot of coffee. The full album titled "Love Songs for Robots" is now available via Domino. Rozzi Crane
Rozzi Crane is a pop artist who has already been featured on The Hunger Games soundtrack, toured with Maroon 5, and collaborated with Kendrick Lamar.
I went from producing songs with Rozzi in my college dorm room to being setup with a proper studio and budget to record three songs soon released on Adam Levine's 222 Records via Interscope. The first single from the album, "Pyscho", made Spotify's Viral 50 List:
